Kuopio: Tourism in a nutshell
34,400 registered bed nights
In December 2018, 34,400 bed nights were recorded in Kuopio (-9.8 %), of which 31,400 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 3,000 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased 10 percent and foreign bed nights decreased five percent. In total, bed nights decreased 10 percent from last year's December.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (1,700 nights).
25,200 nights (-6.6 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 9,300 nights (-17.5 %) by business visitors.
Between January and December, 475,000 bed nights (-2.5 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 59,000 (+7.1 %) for foreigners in Kuopio, in total 534,000 (-1.5 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

20,400 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 13 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 93.1 percent were domestic, and 6.9 percent were from foreign countries.
During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kuopio on average 1.7 nights (+0.06) and foreigners 2.1 nights (+0.05).
2,000 international congress guests in 2018
The number of international congress quests increased 46 percent from the previous year.
There was a total of 33 congresses organized (+16) in 2018.
8,800 air travelers
The airport received a total of 8,800 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased nine percent.
Of local passengers, 10.7 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 89.3 %.
In addition, there were 8,300 passengers departing the airport (-10.0 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 17,000 (-9.2 %).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased four percent
A total of 293,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 90.8 percent.

Russian visa applications decreased seven percent
There was a total of 64,200 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 73.7 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 2.2 million euro
Total accommodation sales in December were 2.2 million euro (+122,000). The share of Airbnb and HomeAway was 16.7 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 1.9 million euro (+29,700) and non-registered sales 374,000 euro (+92,300).
Total January-December sales were 33.5 million euro and they increased 3.3 million euro from the previous year.
