Kuopio: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased four percent
In February 2019, 50,900 bed nights were recorded in Kuopio (+3.5 %), of which 46,400 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 4,600 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased four percent and foreign bed nights increased two percent. In total, bed nights increased four percent from last year's February.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (1,500 nights).
34,800 nights (+2.8 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 16,100 nights (+5.2 %) by business visitors.
Between January and February, 76,000 bed nights (+1.3 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 13,700 (-6.5 %) for foreigners in Kuopio, in total 89,700 (-0.0 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Total of 1.7 million bed nights (+2.0 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.1 million nights (+2.8 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 601,000 nights (+0.4 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Kuopio out of total bed nights was 3.0 % (0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 4.1 % and foreign bed nights 0.8 %.

27,900 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased three percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 93.1 percent were domestic, and 6.9 percent were from foreign countries.
During February, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kuopio on average 1.8 nights (+0.01) and foreigners 2.4 nights (-0.08).
2,100 international congress guests in 2019
The number of international congress quests increased six percent from the previous year.
There was a total of 35 congresses organized (+2.0) in 2019.
9,300 air travelers
The airport received a total of 9,300 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased five percent.
Of local passengers, 9.4 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 90.6 %.
In addition, there were 9,300 passengers departing the airport (-4.5 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 18,600.

205,000 Russian travelers via eastern border
A total of 205,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 82.1 percent.

Russian visa applications decreased 11 percent
There was a total of 40,000 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 82.7 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 3.2 million euro
Total accommodation sales in February were 3.2 million euro (+119,000). The share of Airbnb and HomeAway was 10.0 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 2.9 million euro (+355,000) and Airbnb and HomeAway sales 293,000 euro (-236,000).
Total January-February sales were 5.9 million euro and they increased 216,000 euro from the previous year.
