Registered bed nights increased eight percent

In September 2019, 39,800 bed nights were recorded in Kuopio (+7.6 %), of which 36,700 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 3,100 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased nine percent and foreign bed nights decreased nine percent. In total, bed nights increased eight percent from last year's September.

Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (570 nights).

22,700 nights (+4.7 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 17,200 nights (+11.8 %) by business visitors.

Between January and September, 386,000 bed nights (+2.0 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 50,900 (-0.7 %) for foreigners in Kuopio, in total 437,000 (+1.7 %) nights.

Market share 2.2 percent

Total of 1.8 million bed nights (+5.2 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.3 million nights (+3.0 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 516,000 nights (+11.2 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Kuopio out of total bed nights was 2.2 % (0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 2.8 % and foreign bed nights 0.6 %.

26,400 tourists arrived to accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 10 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 94.5 percent were domestic, and 5.5 percent were from foreign countries.

During September, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kuopio on average 1.5 nights (-0.06) and foreigners 2.2 nights (+0.47).

2,100 international congress guests in 2019

The number of international congress quests increased six percent from the previous year.

There was a total of 36 congresses organized (+3.0) in 2019.

12,700 air travelers

The airport received a total of 12,700 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased two percent.

Of local passengers, 25.9 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 74.1 %.

In addition, there were 13,900 passengers departing the airport (+4.3 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 26,600 (+3.3 %).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased six percent

A total of 251,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

The share of southeastern border stations was 91.4 percent.

There was a total of 69,800 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 87.9 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.

Accommodation sales 3.2 million euro

Total accommodation sales in September were 3.2 million euro (+564,000). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 5.9 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 2.6 million euro (+328,000) and non-registered sales 187,000 euro (+27,900).

Total January-September sales were 29.0 million euro and they increased 2.9 million euro from the previous year.
