Registered bed nights increased two percent

In October 2019, 37,400 bed nights were recorded in Kuopio (+2.0 %), of which 35,500 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 1,900 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased five percent and foreign bed nights decreased 31 percent. In total, bed nights increased two percent from last year's October.

Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Sweden (370 nights).

21,600 nights (+8.8 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 15,900 nights (-6.0 %) by business visitors.

Between January and October, 422,000 bed nights (+2.2 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 52,900 (-2.2 %) for foreigners in Kuopio, in total 475,000 (+1.7 %) nights.

Market share 2.2 percent

Total of 1.7 million bed nights (+7.1 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.2 million nights (+5.3 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 436,000 nights (+12.5 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Kuopio out of total bed nights was 2.2 % (-0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 2.9 % and foreign bed nights 0.4 %.

24,300 tourists arrived to accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased less than one percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 96.3 percent were domestic, and 3.7 percent were from foreign countries.

During October, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kuopio on average 1.5 nights (+0.04) and foreigners 2.1 nights (+0.27).

2,100 international congress guests in 2019

The number of international congress quests increased six percent from the previous year.

There was a total of 36 congresses organized (+3.0) in 2019.

12,500 air travelers

The airport received a total of 12,500 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased two percent.

Of local passengers, 25.0 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 75.0 %.

In addition, there were 12,500 passengers departing the airport (+0.0 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 25,000 (-0.8 %).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 14 percent

A total of 275,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

The share of southeastern border stations was 91.4 percent.

There was a total of 64,800 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 81.6 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.

Accommodation sales 3.0 million euro

Total accommodation sales in October were 3.0 million euro (+265,000). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 17.2 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 2.5 million euro (+154,000) and non-registered sales 508,000 euro (+110,000).

Total January-October sales were 31.9 million euro and they increased 3.2 million euro from the previous year.
