Registered bed nights increased six percent
In December 2019, 36,500 bed nights were recorded in Kuopio (+6.1 %), of which 33,400 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 3,200 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased six percent and foreign bed nights increased five percent. In total, bed nights increased six percent from last year's December.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (2,000 nights).
26,800 nights (+6.5 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 9,700 nights (+4.9 %) by business visitors.
Between January and December, 487,000 bed nights (+2.6 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 57,300 (-3.0 %) for foreigners in Kuopio, in total 544,000 (+2.0 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

21,300 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased five percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 92.7 percent were domestic, and 7.3 percent were from foreign countries.
During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kuopio on average 1.7 nights (+0.03) and foreigners 2.0 nights (-0.09).
2,100 international congress guests in 2019
The number of international congress quests increased six percent from the previous year.
There was a total of 36 congresses organized (+3.0) in 2019.
8,800 air travelers
The airport received a total of 8,800 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased one percent.
Of local passengers, 12.1 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 87.9 %.
In addition, there were 8,300 passengers departing the airport (+0.2 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 17,100 (+0.5 %).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased six percent
A total of 311,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 92.3 percent.

There was a total of 56,700 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 72.6 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 2.8 million euro
Total accommodation sales in December were 2.8 million euro (+559,000). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 6.3 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 2.0 million euro (+155,000) and non-registered sales 175,000 euro (+23,900).
Total January-December sales were 37.7 million euro and they increased 4.1 million euro from the previous year.
