24,100 registered bed nights

In March 2020, 24,100 bed nights were recorded in Kuopio (-52.8 %), of which 22,400 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 1,700 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased 51 percent and foreign bed nights decreased 69 percent. In total, bed nights decreased 53 percent from last year's March.

Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (970 nights).

15,500 nights (-54.4 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 8,600 nights (-49.6 %) by business visitors.

Between January and March, 101,000 bed nights (-16.7 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 15,000 (-22.5 %) for foreigners in Kuopio, in total 116,000 (-17.5 %) nights.

Total of 996,000 bed nights (-46.6 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 730,000 nights (-43.7 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 265,000 nights (-53.2 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Kuopio out of total bed nights was 2.4 % (-0.3 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 3.1 % and foreign bed nights 0.7 %.

13,300 tourists arrived to accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 54 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 94.4 percent were domestic, and 5.6 percent were from foreign countries.

During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kuopio on average 1.8 nights (+0.09) and foreigners 2.3 nights (-0.35).

4,600 air travelers

The airport received a total of 4,600 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased 58 percent.

Of local passengers, 13.7 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 86.3 %.

In addition, there were 3,700 passengers departing the airport (-66.0 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 8,400 (-62.0 %).

145,000 Russian travelers via eastern border

A total of 145,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

The share of southeastern border stations was 88.7 percent.

There was a total of 27,200 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 77.9 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.

Accommodation sales 2.3 million euro

Total accommodation sales in March were 2.3 million euro (-1.2 million). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 33.7 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 1.5 million euro (-1.5 million) and non-registered sales 787,000 euro (+370,000).

Total January-March sales were 9.0 million euro and they decreased 364,000 euro from the previous year.
