Kuopio: Tourism in a nutshell
33,000 registered bed nights
In September 2020, 33,000 bed nights were recorded in Kuopio (-17.0 %), of which 32,500 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 540 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased 11 percent and foreign bed nights decreased 83 percent. In total, bed nights decreased 17 percent from last year's September.
21,600 nights (-4.6 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 11,400 nights (-33.4 %) by business visitors.
Between January and September, 314,000 bed nights (-18.8 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 19,800 (-61.1 %) for foreigners in Kuopio, in total 334,000 (-23.7 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

20,000 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 24 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 98.9 percent were domestic, and 1.1 percent were from foreign countries.
During September, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kuopio on average 1.6 nights (+0.17) and foreigners 2.4 nights (+0.21).

The airport received a total of 980 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased 92 percent.
Of local passengers, 8.6 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 91.4 %.
In addition, there were 1,000 passengers departing the airport (-92.5 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 2,000 (-92.4 %).

A total of 23,800 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

There was a total of 610 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 60.7 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 2.7 million euro
Total accommodation sales in September were 2.7 million euro (-473,000). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 26.0 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 2.0 million euro (-609,000) and non-registered sales 698,000 euro (+136,000).
Total January-September sales were 23.9 million euro and they decreased 5.0 million euro from the previous year.
