Kuopio: Tourism in a nutshell
32,300 registered bed nights
In February 2021, 32,300 bed nights were recorded in Kuopio (-37.8 %), of which 31,900 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 470 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased 33 percent and foreign bed nights decreased 89 percent. In total, bed nights decreased 38 percent from last year's February.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Latvia (139 nights).
24,600 nights (-31.4 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 7,700 nights (-52.3 %) by business visitors.
Between January and February, 52,800 bed nights (-33.1 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 860 (-93.5 %) for foreigners in Kuopio, in total 53,600 (-41.7 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

16,400 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 37 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 98.9 percent were domestic, and 1.1 percent were from foreign countries.
During February, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kuopio on average 2.0 nights (0.0) and foreigners 2.7 nights (-0.06).

The airport received a total of 640 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased 93 percent.
Of local passengers, 0.6 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 99.4 %.
In addition, there were 560 passengers departing the airport (-93.8 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 1,200 (-93.4 %).

22,700 Russian travelers via eastern border
A total of 22,700 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

There was a total of 830 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 42.7 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 2.4 million euro
Total accommodation sales in February were 2.4 million euro (-1.2 million). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 24.2 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 1.8 million euro (-1.2 million) and non-registered sales 576,000 euro (-27,400).
Total January-February sales were 4.1 million euro and they decreased 2.6 million euro from the previous year.
