Kuusamo: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased 26 percent (February)
In February 2020, 94,100 bed nights were recorded in Kuusamo (+25.7 %), of which 67,100 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 27,000 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased 28 percent and foreign bed nights increased 21 percent. In total, bed nights increased 26 percent from last year's February.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from United Kingdom (8,800 nights).
85,700 nights (+23.4 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 8,400 nights (+55.4 %) by business visitors.
Between January and February, 97,600 bed nights (+31.5 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 59,400 (+9.2 %) for foreigners in Kuusamo, in total 157,000 (+22.1 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Market share 5.1 percent (February)
Total of 1.8 million bed nights (+7.2 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.2 million nights (+10.1 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 613,000 nights (+1.9 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Kuusamo out of total bed nights was 5.1 % (+0.7 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 5.4 % and foreign bed nights 4.4 %.
22,000 tourists arrived to accommodation (February)
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 24 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 74.9 percent were domestic, and 25.1 percent were from foreign countries.
During February, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kuusamo on average 4.1 nights (+0.16) and foreigners 4.9 nights (-0.29).
5,000 air travelers
The airport received a total of 5,000 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased 44 percent.
Of local passengers, 21.5 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 78.5 %.
In addition, there were 6,300 passengers departing the airport (-32.5 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 11,200.

Accommodation sales 4.1 million euro (February)
Registered accommodation sales in February were 4.1 million euro (+948,000).
Registered January-February sales were 6.6 million euro and they increased 1.6 million euro from the previous year.
