121,000 bed nights in paid accommodation
Total of 121,000 bed nights (+9.2 %) were recorded in paid accommodation in Kuusamo in December 2018. This figure includes bed nights at registered establishments as well as at AirBnB and Vrbo. The share of registered bed nights was 63 % and non-registered 37 %.
Between January and December, the number of paid bed nights was 1.1 million (+28.4 %). Share of registered was 56 % and non-registered 44 %.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded. Non-registered bed nights statistics include bed nights from AirBnB and Vrbo.
Paid bed nights
Registered bed nights increased nine percent
In December 2018, 76,300 registered bed nights were recorded in Kuusamo (+9.5 %), of which 38,500 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 37,700 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased four percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 28 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased nine percent from last year's December.
68,800 nights (+19.5 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 7,500 nights (-38.3 %) by business visitors.
Between January and December, 443,000 registered bed nights (-0.4 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 154,000 (+7.9 %) for foreigners in Kuusamo, in total 597,000 (+1.6 %) registered nights.

Length of stay was 4.0 nights in registered accommodation
Length of stay in registered accommodation decreased less than one percent compared to earlier year. In Kuusamo, length of stay in December was on average 4.0 nights and in Finland 2.0 nights (+1.4 %).
During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kuusamo on average 3.7 nights (-1.4 %) and foreigners 4.3 nights (-1.0 %).
19,200 tourists arrived to registered accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 10 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 54.2 percent were domestic, and 45.8 percent were from foreign countries.
During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kuusamo on average 3.7 nights (+0.06) and foreigners 4.3 nights (-0.25).

The airport received a total of 13,900 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 47 percent.
Of local passengers, 61.0 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 39.0 %.
In addition, there were 10,900 passengers departing the airport (+50.9 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 24,800 (+48.6 %).

Accommodation sales 4.4 million euro
Total accommodation sales in December were 4.4 million euro (+743,000). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 34.0 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 2.9 million euro (+383,000) and non-registered sales 1.5 million euro (+360,000).
Total January-December sales were 31.3 million euro and they increased 7.6 million euro from the previous year.
