Kymenlaakso: Tourism in a nutshell
21,600 registered bed nights
In September 2020, 21,600 bed nights were recorded in Kymenlaakso (-9.3 %), of which 20,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 1,600 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased two percent and foreign bed nights decreased 62 percent. In total, bed nights decreased nine percent from last year's September.
12,400 nights (-0.6 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 9,200 nights (-18.7 %) by business visitors.
Between January and September, 162,000 bed nights (-20.6 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 18,400 (-61.8 %) for foreigners in Kymenlaakso, in total 181,000 (-28.4 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

13,200 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased seven percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 96.1 percent were domestic, and 3.9 percent were from foreign countries.
During September, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kymenlaakso on average 1.6 nights (-0.05) and foreigners 3.1 nights (+1.2).

23,800 Russian travelers via eastern border
A total of 23,800 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

There was a total of 610 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 60.7 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Foreign visitors and their consumption
The number of foreign visitors in September was 7,000 (-77.0 %). Out of them 5,000 were on a daytrip and 2,100 stayed at least for one night.
The cumulative number of foreign visitors between January and September was 107,000 (-63.1 %).
Total consumption of these visitors in Kymenlaakso in September was 989,000 euro (140 per visitor). Overnight visitors spent 346,000 euro and day visitors 643,000 euro. Between January and September the consumption was 14.9 million euro.

Registered accommodation sales in September were 1.3 million euro (-192,000).
Registered January-September sales were 9.7 million euro and they decreased 3.9 million euro from the previous year.
