Kymenlaakso: Tourism in a nutshell

Registered bed nights increased 17 percent (August)
In August 2022, 38,900 registered bed nights were recorded in Kymenlaakso (+16.6 %), of which 34,600 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 4,300 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 10 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 128 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 17 percent from last year's August.
Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from United Kingdom (650 nights).
25,600 nights (+9.9 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 13,300 nights (+32.0 %) by business visitors.
Between January and August, 178,000 registered bed nights (+3.5 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 18,500 (+90.2 %) for foreigners in Kymenlaakso, in total 196,000 (+8.2 %) registered nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

22,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation (August)
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased nine percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 90.8 percent were domestic, and 9.2 percent were from foreign countries.
During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kymenlaakso on average 1.7 nights (+0.1) and foreigners 2.1 nights (+0.2).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 250 percent (August)
A total of 129,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

Russian visa applications increased 330 percent (June)
There was a total of 12,000 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 81.5 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Foreign visitors and their consumption (August)
The number of foreign visitors in August was 22,400 (+107.2 %). Out of them 15,800 were on a daytrip and 6,700 stayed at least for one night.
The cumulative number of foreign visitors between January and August was 101,000 (+120.7 %).
Total consumption of these visitors in Kymenlaakso in August was 3.2 million euro (140 per visitor). Overnight visitors spent 1.1 million euro and day visitors 2.0 million euro. Between January and August the consumption was 14.1 million euro.

Accommodation sales 2.5 million euro (August)
Registered accommodation sales in August were 2.5 million euro (+526,000).
Registered January-August sales were 11.8 million euro and they increased 2.4 million euro from the previous year.
