12,700 registered bed nights

In December 2019, 12,700 bed nights were recorded in Kymenlaakso (-1.2 %), of which 9,800 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 2,900 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased three percent and foreign bed nights decreased 13 percent. In total, bed nights decreased one percent from last year's December.

6,300 nights (-9.6 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 6,400 nights (+8.7 %) by business visitors.

Between January and December, 235,000 bed nights (+8.4 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 53,900 (-2.7 %) for foreigners in Kymenlaakso, in total 289,000 (+6.2 %) nights.

Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Total of 1.8 million bed nights (+1.2 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 988,000 nights (+2.2 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 789,000 nights (-0.0 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Kymenlaakso out of total bed nights was 0.7 % (-0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 1.0 % and foreign bed nights 0.4 %.

8,400 tourists arrived to accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased seven percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 80.0 percent were domestic, and 20.0 percent were from foreign countries.

During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kymenlaakso on average 1.5 nights (-0.1) and foreigners 1.7 nights (-0.23).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased six percent

A total of 311,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

The share of southeastern border stations was 92.3 percent.

Russian visa applications decreased 12 percent

There was a total of 56,700 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 72.6 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.

Foreign visitors and their consumption

The number of foreign visitors in December was 29,700 (-1.5 %). Out of them 22,800 were on a daytrip and 6,900 stayed at least for one night.

The cumulative number of foreign visitors between January and December was 378,000 (+4.8 %).

Total consumption of these visitors in Kymenlaakso in December was 4.1 million euro (138 per visitor). Overnight visitors spent 1.1 million euro and day visitors 3.0 million euro. Between January and December the consumption was 52.7 million euro.

Accommodation sales 771,000 euro

Registered accommodation sales in December were 771,000 euro (+21,900).

Registered January-December sales were 16.4 million euro and they increased 1.1 million euro from the previous year.
