596,000 bed nights in paid accommodation
Total of 596,000 bed nights (+6.2 %) were recorded in paid accommodation in Lapland in December 2018. This figure includes bed nights at registered establishments as well as at AirBnB and Vrbo. The share of registered bed nights was 82 % and non-registered 18 %.
Between January and December, the number of paid bed nights was 3.8 million (+15.1 %). Share of registered was 78 % and non-registered 22 %.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded. Non-registered bed nights statistics include bed nights from AirBnB and Vrbo.
Paid bed nights
Registered bed nights increased five percent
In December 2018, 489,000 registered bed nights were recorded in Lapland (+5.2 %), of which 90,200 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 399,000 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased five percent and registered foreign bed nights increased eight percent. In total, registered bed nights increased five percent from last year's December.
407,000 nights (+0.7 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 82,200 nights (+34.9 %) by business visitors.
Between January and December, 1.4 million registered bed nights (+0.2 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 1.6 million (+5.7 %) for foreigners in Lapland, in total 3.0 million (+3.0 %) registered nights.

Length of stay was 2.7 nights in registered accommodation
Length of stay in registered accommodation decreased two percent compared to earlier year. In Lapland, length of stay in December was on average 2.7 nights and in Finland 2.0 nights (+1.4 %).
During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Lapland on average 3.1 nights (-0.9 %) and foreigners 2.6 nights (+1.3 %).
182,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased eight percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 16.1 percent were domestic, and 83.9 percent were from foreign countries.
During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Lapland on average 3.1 nights (+0.06) and foreigners 2.6 nights (-0.08).

The airport received a total of 3,800 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 23 percent.
Of local passengers, 3.4 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 96.6 %.
In addition, there were 3,200 passengers departing the airport (+19.2 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 7,000 (+21.1 %).

Accommodation sales 37.4 million euro
Total accommodation sales in December were 37.4 million euro (+4.3 million). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 12.4 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 32.8 million euro (+3.4 million) and non-registered sales 4.6 million euro (+994,000).
Total January-December sales were 190.7 million euro and they increased 31.1 million euro from the previous year.
