247,000 registered bed nights

In March 2020, 247,000 bed nights were recorded in Lapland (-40.1 %), of which 128,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 119,000 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased 34 percent and foreign bed nights decreased 46 percent. In total, bed nights decreased 40 percent from last year's March.

Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from France (21,000 nights).

205,000 nights (-38.7 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 42,200 nights (-46.4 %) by business visitors.

Between January and March, 342,000 bed nights (-7.8 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 704,000 (-8.9 %) for foreigners in Lapland, in total 1.0 million (-8.5 %) nights.

Market share 24.8 percent

Total of 996,000 bed nights (-46.6 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 730,000 nights (-43.7 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 265,000 nights (-53.2 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Lapland out of total bed nights was 24.8 % (+2.7 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 17.5 % and foreign bed nights 44.9 %.

72,100 tourists arrived to accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 47 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 48.6 percent were domestic, and 51.4 percent were from foreign countries.

During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Lapland on average 3.6 nights (+0.62) and foreigners 3.2 nights (+0.19).

1,200 air travelers (Kemi)

The airport received a total of 1,200 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased 63 percent.

Of local passengers, 0.0 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 100.0 %.

In addition, there were 1,200 passengers departing the airport (-62.8 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 2,400 (-62.9 %).
