Paid bed nights

145,000 registered bed nights

In February 2021, 145,000 registered bed nights were recorded in Lapland (-65.1 %), of which 133,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 11,400 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased six percent and registered foreign bed nights decreased 96 percent. In total, registered bed nights decreased 65 percent from last year's February.

109,000 nights (-67.7 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 35,900 nights (-53.9 %) by business visitors.

Between January and February, 237,000 registered bed nights (+10.6 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 18,100 (-96.9 %) for foreigners in Lapland, in total 255,000 (-68.1 %) registered nights.

Market share 16.0 percent

Total of 903,000 registered bed nights (-51.2 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 845,000 nights (-31.9 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 58,700 nights (-90.4 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Lapland out of total registered bed nights was 16.0 % (-6.4 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 15.8 % and foreign bed nights 19.4 %.

Comparison of registered bed nights between regions

Length of stay increased 13 percent in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased 13 percent compared to earlier year. In Lapland, length of stay in February was on average 3.4 nights and in Finland 2.2 nights (+10.9 %).

During February, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Lapland on average 3.3 nights (+22.7 %) and foreigners 4.5 nights (+26.8 %).

42,400 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 69 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 94.0 percent were domestic, and 6.0 percent were from foreign countries.

During February, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Lapland on average 3.3 nights (+0.44) and foreigners 4.5 nights (+1.4).

The airport received a total of 182 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased 93 percent.

Of local passengers, 0.0 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 100.0 %.

Accommodation sales 11.9 million euro

Total accommodation sales in February were 11.9 million euro (-24.6 million). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 28.7 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 8.5 million euro (-23.2 million) and non-registered sales 3.4 million euro (-1.4 million).

Total January-February sales were 20.8 million euro and they decreased 50.7 million euro from the previous year.
