Registered bed nights increased 17 percent

In May 2019, 39,700 registered bed nights were recorded in Luleå (+16.8 %), of which 29,900 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 9,800 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 15 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 23 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 17 percent from last year's May.

7,200 rooms (+31.7 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 17,400 rooms (+11.0 %) by business visitors.

Between January and May, 134,000 registered bed nights (+6.8 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 31,100 (+7.2 %) for foreigners in Luleå, in total 165,000 (+6.9 %) registered nights.

Total of 5.3 million registered bed nights (+3.0 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 4.1 million nights (+6.1 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 1.3 million nights (-5.8 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Luleå out of total registered bed nights was 0.7 % (+0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.7 % and foreign bed nights 0.8 %.

Length of stay increased 26 percent in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased 26 percent compared to earlier year. In Luleå, length of stay in May was on average 2.5 nights and in Sweden 1.8 nights (-5.1 %).

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Luleå on average 2.2 nights (+2.6 %) and foreigners 4.1 nights (+6.6 %).

16,100 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased seven percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 85.3 percent were domestic, and 14.7 percent were from foreign countries.

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Luleå on average 2.2 nights (+0.4) and foreigners 4.1 nights (+1.2).

The airport received a total of 108,000 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased five percent.

Of local passengers, 12.5 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 87.5 %.
