Maarianhamina: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased eight percent
In February 2020, 5,500 bed nights were recorded in Maarianhamina (+7.8 %), of which 2,900 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 2,600 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased less than one percent and foreign bed nights increased 17 percent. In total, bed nights increased eight percent from last year's February.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Sweden (2,300 nights).
4,200 nights (+21.3 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 1,300 nights (-20.7 %) by business visitors.
Between January and February, 6,000 bed nights (-14.4 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 5,400 (+29.6 %) for foreigners in Maarianhamina, in total 11,400 (+2.0 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

3,400 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased nine percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 52.4 percent were domestic, and 47.6 percent were from foreign countries.
During February, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Maarianhamina on average 1.6 nights (-0.04) and foreigners 1.6 nights (+0.01).
2,100 international congress guests in 2019
The number of international congress quests decreased 13 percent from the previous year.
There was a total of 11 congresses organized (-9.0) in 2019.
1,800 air travelers
The airport received a total of 1,800 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased eight percent.
Of local passengers, 33.4 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 66.6 %.
In addition, there were 1,700 passengers departing the airport (-8.7 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 3,500 (-0.8 %).

There were 71,400 arriving passengers by ferries. In total, the arrivals to port increased less than one percent. The number of departing passengers was 70,200 (-1.7 %). Most arrivals were from Sweden (70,900 arrivals).
