Registered bed nights increased 210 percent

In April 2021, 2,000 registered bed nights were recorded in Maarianhamina (+213.8 %), of which 1,800 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 230 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 410 percent and registered foreign bed nights decreased 23 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 210 percent from last year's April.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Turkey (101 nights).

710 nights (+379.5 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 1,300 nights (+164.0 %) by business visitors.

Between January and April, 5,300 registered bed nights (-30.1 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 1,200 (-81.9 %) for foreigners in Maarianhamina, in total 6,600 (-54.7 %) registered nights.

Total of 780,000 registered bed nights (+310.4 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 727,000 nights (+319.5 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 53,100 nights (+216.0 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Maarianhamina out of total registered bed nights was 0.3 % (-0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.2 % and foreign bed nights 0.4 %.

990 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 540 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 89.6 percent were domestic, and 10.4 percent were from foreign countries.

During April, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Maarianhamina on average 2.0 nights (-0.44) and foreigners 2.2 nights (-20).

500 air travelers

The airport received a total of 500 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 20 percent.

Of local passengers, 18.3 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 81.7 %.

In addition, there were 460 passengers departing the airport (+14.6 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 970 (+17.5 %).

There were 7,700 arriving passengers by ferries. In total, the arrivals to port increased 3,000 percent. The number of departing passengers was 7,500 (+5,190.8 %). Most arrivals were from Sweden (7,700 arrivals).
