31,100 registered bed nights

In June 2019, 31,100 bed nights were recorded in Maarianhamina (+0.5 %), of which 19,100 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 11,900 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased five percent and foreign bed nights decreased six percent. In total, bed nights increased less than one percent from last year's June.

Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Sweden (8,500 nights).

28,500 nights (+0.0 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 2,600 nights (+5.5 %) by business visitors.

Between January and June, 45,700 bed nights (-1.1 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 32,900 (+1.9 %) for foreigners in Maarianhamina, in total 78,600 (+0.1 %) nights.

Total of 2.3 million bed nights (+6.2 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.7 million nights (+7.1 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 608,000 nights (+3.8 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Maarianhamina out of total bed nights was 1.4 % (-0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 1.1 % and foreign bed nights 2.0 %.

16,600 tourists arrived to accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased one percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 58.5 percent were domestic, and 41.5 percent were from foreign countries.

During June, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Maarianhamina on average 2.0 nights (+0.04) and foreigners 1.7 nights (-0.01).

2,100 international congress guests in 2019

The number of international congress quests decreased 13 percent from the previous year.

There was a total of 11 congresses organized (-9.0) in 2019.

2,500 air travelers

The airport received a total of 2,500 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 24 percent.

Of local passengers, 20.5 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 79.5 %.

In addition, there were 2,400 passengers departing the airport (+4.5 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 4,900 (+13.8 %).

There were 114,000 arriving passengers by ferries. In total, the arrivals to port increased six percent. The number of departing passengers was 115,000 (+7.9 %). Most arrivals were from Sweden (111,000 arrivals).
