6,500 registered bed nights

In March 2019, 6,500 bed nights were recorded in Maarianhamina (-7.5 %), of which 3,400 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 3,100 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased 16 percent and foreign bed nights increased four percent. In total, bed nights decreased seven percent from last year's March.

Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Sweden (2,600 nights).

4,500 nights (-18.1 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 2,000 nights (+31.1 %) by business visitors.

Between January and March, 10,400 bed nights (+7.3 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 7,300 (+8.1 %) for foreigners in Maarianhamina, in total 17,700 (+7.6 %) nights.

Total of 1.9 million bed nights (-2.3 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.3 million nights (-2.6 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 566,000 nights (-1.4 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Maarianhamina out of total bed nights was 0.3 % (-0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.3 % and foreign bed nights 0.5 %.

3,900 tourists arrived to accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 11 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 51.9 percent were domestic, and 48.1 percent were from foreign countries.

During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Maarianhamina on average 1.7 nights (+0.02) and foreigners 1.6 nights (+0.12).

2,100 international congress guests in 2019

The number of international congress quests decreased 13 percent from the previous year.

There was a total of 11 congresses organized (-9.0) in 2019.

2,100 air travelers

The airport received a total of 2,100 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased 19 percent.

Of local passengers, 25.8 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 74.2 %.

In addition, there were 2,000 passengers departing the airport (-10.8 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 4,100.

There were 84,100 arriving passengers by ferries. In total, the arrivals to port decreased eight percent. The number of departing passengers was 84,400 (-5.5 %). Most arrivals were from Sweden (83,600 arrivals).
