Registered bed nights increased 39 percent

In January 2019, 6,100 bed nights were recorded in Maarianhamina (+38.5 %), of which 4,100 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 2,000 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased 79 percent and foreign bed nights decreased six percent. In total, bed nights increased 39 percent from last year's January.

Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Sweden (1,800 nights).

4,200 nights (+58.6 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 1,900 nights (+8.4 %) by business visitors.

Total of 1.5 million bed nights (+1.1 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 869,000 nights (+1.5 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 675,000 nights (+0.6 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Maarianhamina out of total bed nights was 0.4 % (+0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.5 % and foreign bed nights 0.3 %.

3,400 tourists arrived to accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 21 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 68.5 percent were domestic, and 31.5 percent were from foreign countries.

During January, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Maarianhamina on average 1.8 nights (+0.23) and foreigners 1.9 nights (+0.25).

2,400 international congress guests in 2018

The number of international congress quests increased 156 percent from the previous year.

There was a total of 20 congresses organized (+1.0) in 2018.

2,000 air travelers

The airport received a total of 2,000 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased 16 percent.

Of local passengers, 33.1 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 66.9 %.

In addition, there were 2,200 passengers departing the airport (-7.5 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 4,200.

There were 43,200 arriving passengers by ferries. In total, the arrivals to port decreased 32 percent. The number of departing passengers was 43,700 (-32.3 %). Most arrivals were from Sweden (42,700 arrivals).
