Maarianhamina: Tourism in a nutshell

Registered bed nights increased 153 percent
In May 2022, 22,500 registered bed nights were recorded in Maarianhamina (+153.3 %), of which 15,400 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 7,000 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 87 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 1,000 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 153 percent from last year's May.
Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Sweden (5,600 nights).
16,300 nights (+224.9 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 6,200 nights (+59.9 %) by business visitors.
Between January and May, 30,100 registered bed nights (+122.6 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 14,900 (+690.4 %) for foreigners in Maarianhamina, in total 45,100 (+192.0 %) registered nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 173 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 68.2 percent were domestic, and 31.8 percent were from foreign countries.
During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Maarianhamina on average 1.8 nights (-0.13) and foreigners 1.8 nights (-0.1).

The airport received a total of 1,600 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 410 percent.
Of local passengers, 48.1 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 51.9 %.
