33,000 registered bed nights

In August 2019, 33,000 bed nights were recorded in Maarianhamina (-1.5 %), of which 15,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 18,100 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased one percent and foreign bed nights decreased two percent. In total, bed nights decreased one percent from last year's August.

Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Sweden (13,100 nights).

30,000 nights (-2.3 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 3,000 nights (+8.0 %) by business visitors.

Between January and August, 86,900 bed nights (+1.6 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 77,200 (+2.6 %) for foreigners in Maarianhamina, in total 164,000 (+2.1 %) nights.

Total of 2.4 million bed nights (+3.9 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.6 million nights (+3.7 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 786,000 nights (+4.1 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Maarianhamina out of total bed nights was 1.4 % (-0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.9 % and foreign bed nights 2.3 %.

18,900 tourists arrived to accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased two percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 46.9 percent were domestic, and 53.1 percent were from foreign countries.

During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Maarianhamina on average 1.7 nights (-0.03) and foreigners 1.8 nights (+0.03).

2,100 international congress guests in 2019

The number of international congress quests decreased 13 percent from the previous year.

There was a total of 11 congresses organized (-9.0) in 2019.

2,000 air travelers

The airport received a total of 2,000 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased six percent.

Of local passengers, 23.0 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 77.0 %.

In addition, there were 2,000 passengers departing the airport (-6.5 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 4,000 (-6.4 %).

There were 139,000 arriving passengers by ferries. In total, the arrivals to port decreased two percent. The number of departing passengers was 146,000 (+0.6 %). Most arrivals were from Sweden (137,000 arrivals).
