48,000 registered bed nights

In May 2020, 48,000 registered bed nights were recorded in Malmö (-73.6 %), of which 39,700 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 8,200 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased 69 percent and registered foreign bed nights decreased 85 percent. In total, registered bed nights decreased 74 percent from last year's May.

12,700 rooms (-73.2 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 12,800 rooms (-81.4 %) by business visitors.

Between January and May, 324,000 registered bed nights (-37.1 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 101,000 (-50.3 %) for foreigners in Malmö, in total 425,000 (-40.9 %) registered nights.

Market share 2.1 percent

Total of 2.2 million registered bed nights (-58.0 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 2.1 million nights (-49.2 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 176,000 nights (-86.2 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Malmö out of total registered bed nights was 2.1 % (-1.3 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 1.9 % and foreign bed nights 4.7 %.

Length of stay increased 33 percent in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased 33 percent compared to earlier year. In Malmö, length of stay in May was on average 2.4 nights and in Sweden 2.4 nights (+30.7 %).

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Malmö on average 2.4 nights (+11.8 %) and foreigners 2.3 nights (+7.3 %).

19,900 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 80 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 82.1 percent were domestic, and 17.9 percent were from foreign countries.

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Malmö on average 2.4 nights (+0.68) and foreigners 2.3 nights (+0.34).

2,300 air travelers

The airport received a total of 2,300 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased 98 percent.

Of local passengers, 91.9 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 8.1 %.

In addition, there were 1,300 passengers departing the airport (-98.7 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 3,600 (-98.1 %).
