85,600 registered bed nights

In September 2020, 85,600 registered bed nights were recorded in Malmö (-50.9 %), of which 66,800 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 18,800 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased 44 percent and registered foreign bed nights decreased 66 percent. In total, registered bed nights decreased 51 percent from last year's September.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Germany (4,200 nights).

25,600 rooms (-48.9 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 27,800 rooms (-58.6 %) by business visitors.

Between January and September, 701,000 registered bed nights (-38.3 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 174,000 (-67.7 %) for foreigners in Malmö, in total 876,000 (-47.8 %) registered nights.

Market share 2.7 percent

Total of 3.1 million registered bed nights (-30.9 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 2.7 million nights (-20.1 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 436,000 nights (-62.3 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Malmö out of total registered bed nights was 2.7 % (-1.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 2.5 % and foreign bed nights 4.3 %.

Length of stay increased six percent in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased six percent compared to earlier year. In Malmö, length of stay in September was on average 1.9 nights and in Sweden 2.0 nights (+4.9 %).

During September, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Malmö on average 1.8 nights (+13.4 %) and foreigners 2.0 nights (-0.7 %).

45,900 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 54 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 79.7 percent were domestic, and 20.3 percent were from foreign countries.

During September, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Malmö on average 1.8 nights (+0.18) and foreigners 2.0 nights (-0.07).

21,700 air travelers

The airport received a total of 21,700 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased 77 percent.

Of local passengers, 51.3 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 48.7 %.

In addition, there were 20,800 passengers departing the airport (-77.7 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 42,400 (-77.6 %).

Registered accommodation sales in September were 46.3 million crowns (-79.1 million).

Registered January-September sales were 447.0 million crowns and they decreased 471.0 million crowns from the previous year.
