44,700 registered bed nights

In December 2020, 44,700 registered bed nights were recorded in Malmö (-65.3 %), of which 37,200 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 7,500 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased 59 percent and registered foreign bed nights decreased 80 percent. In total, registered bed nights decreased 65 percent from last year's December.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from United States (1,300 nights).

14,800 rooms (-60.9 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 13,600 rooms (-68.1 %) by business visitors.

Between January and December, 865,000 registered bed nights (-41.2 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 216,000 (-67.9 %) for foreigners in Malmö, in total 1.1 million (-49.6 %) registered nights.

Market share 2.5 percent

Total of 1.8 million registered bed nights (-47.3 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.6 million nights (-40.0 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 208,000 nights (-72.8 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Malmö out of total registered bed nights was 2.5 % (-1.3 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 2.3 % and foreign bed nights 3.6 %.

Length of stay increased 14 percent in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased 14 percent compared to earlier year. In Malmö, length of stay in December was on average 2.0 nights and in Sweden 2.8 nights (+37.5 %).

During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Malmö on average 1.9 nights (+13.3 %) and foreigners 2.3 nights (+1.4 %).

22,700 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 70 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 85.7 percent were domestic, and 14.3 percent were from foreign countries.

During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Malmö on average 1.9 nights (+0.25) and foreigners 2.3 nights (+0.4).

9,000 air travelers

The airport received a total of 9,000 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased 87 percent.

Of local passengers, 52.3 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 47.7 %.

In addition, there were 12,400 passengers departing the airport (-82.8 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 21,400 (-84.7 %).

Registered accommodation sales in December were 21.9 million crowns (-50.0 million).

Registered January-December sales were 553.7 million crowns and they decreased 667.0 million crowns from the previous year.
