51,900 registered bed nights

In March 2021, 51,900 registered bed nights were recorded in Malmö (-26.1 %), of which 43,100 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 8,800 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased 24 percent and registered foreign bed nights decreased 36 percent. In total, registered bed nights decreased 26 percent from last year's March.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from United States (1,300 nights).

14,500 rooms (-20.9 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 20,000 rooms (-39.0 %) by business visitors.

Between January and March, 118,000 registered bed nights (-54.1 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 22,100 (-75.2 %) for foreigners in Malmö, in total 140,000 (-59.5 %) registered nights.

Market share 1.8 percent

Total of 2.9 million registered bed nights (+2.8 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 2.7 million nights (+11.1 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 218,000 nights (-46.3 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Malmö out of total registered bed nights was 1.8 % (-0.7 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 1.6 % and foreign bed nights 4.0 %.

Length of stay increased 11 percent in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased 11 percent compared to earlier year. In Malmö, length of stay in March was on average 2.1 nights and in Sweden 3.2 nights (+21.8 %).

During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Malmö on average 2.0 nights (+6.0 %) and foreigners 3.0 nights (+36.3 %).

24,900 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 33 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 88.1 percent were domestic, and 11.9 percent were from foreign countries.

During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Malmö on average 2.0 nights (+0.12) and foreigners 3.0 nights (+0.95).

10,900 air travelers

The airport received a total of 10,900 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased 65 percent.

Of local passengers, 50.8 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 49.2 %.

In addition, there were 10,300 passengers departing the airport (-64.5 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 21,200 (-65.0 %).

Registered accommodation sales in March were 26.9 million crowns (-25.0 million).

Registered January-March sales were 70.2 million crowns and they decreased 157.0 million crowns from the previous year.
