Paid bed nights

Registered bed nights increased 49 percent

In May 2021, 71,500 registered bed nights were recorded in Malmö (+49.0 %), of which 58,500 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 12,900 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 47 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 57 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 49 percent from last year's May.

19,300 rooms (+51.7 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 22,600 rooms (+77.1 %) by business visitors.

Between January and May, 228,000 registered bed nights (-29.4 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 45,700 (-54.8 %) for foreigners in Malmö, in total 274,000 (-35.4 %) registered nights.

Market share 2.2 percent

Total of 3.3 million registered bed nights (+46.7 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 3.0 million nights (+45.1 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 291,000 nights (+65.3 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Malmö out of total registered bed nights was 2.2 % (0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 2.0 % and foreign bed nights 4.4 %.

Length of stay was 2.1 nights in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation decreased 11 percent compared to earlier year. In Malmö, length of stay in May was on average 2.1 nights and in Sweden 2.3 nights (-5.3 %).

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Malmö on average 2.0 nights (+2.3 %) and foreigners 2.9 nights (+34.1 %).

33,300 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 67 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 86.7 percent were domestic, and 13.3 percent were from foreign countries.

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Malmö on average 2.0 nights (-0.4) and foreigners 2.9 nights (+0.6).

15,500 air travelers

The airport received a total of 15,500 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 570 percent.

Of local passengers, 50.9 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 49.1 %.

In addition, there were 15,300 passengers departing the airport (+1,059.0 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 30,800 (+749.0 %).

Registered accommodation sales in May were 35.1 million crowns (+14.5 million).

Registered January-May sales were 135.6 million crowns and they decreased 128.0 million crowns from the previous year.
