Registered bed nights increased 51 percent
In August 2021, 187,000 registered bed nights were recorded in Malmö (+51.0 %), of which 130,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 56,500 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 31 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 136 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 51 percent from last year's August.
Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Germany (15,900 nights).
58,200 rooms (+43.3 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 35,000 rooms (+58.2 %) by business visitors.
Between January and August, 619,000 registered bed nights (-2.4 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 168,000 (+7.8 %) for foreigners in Malmö, in total 787,000 (-0.4 %) registered nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, holiday villages, youth hostels and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 9 beds or 5 rooms are excluded.

Length of stay was 2.0 nights in registered accommodation
Length of stay in registered accommodation decreased three percent compared to earlier year. In Malmö, length of stay in August was on average 2.0 nights and in Sweden 2.2 nights (-3.6 %).
During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Malmö on average 1.9 nights (+0.5 %) and foreigners 2.2 nights (+12.8 %).
92,600 tourists arrived to registered accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 56 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 72.2 percent were domestic, and 27.8 percent were from foreign countries.
During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Malmö on average 1.9 nights (-0.15) and foreigners 2.2 nights (+0.14).

The airport received a total of 47,800 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 119 percent.
Of local passengers, 70.2 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 29.8 %.
In addition, there were 34,300 passengers departing the airport (+94.6 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 82,100 (+108.2 %).

Registered accommodation sales in August were 84.0 million crowns (+34.2 million).
Registered January-August sales were 358.7 million crowns and they decreased 42.0 million crowns from the previous year.
