Meri-Lappi: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased four percent
In March 2019, 15,000 bed nights were recorded in Meri-Lappi (+4.4 %), of which 9,100 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 5,900 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased four percent and foreign bed nights increased four percent. In total, bed nights increased four percent from last year's March.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Thailand (930 nights).
6,500 nights (-10.1 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 8,500 nights (+19.1 %) by business visitors.
Between January and March, 19,600 bed nights (-0.2 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 20,000 (+2.2 %) for foreigners in Meri-Lappi, in total 39,600 (+1.0 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Total of 1.9 million bed nights (-2.3 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.3 million nights (-2.6 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 566,000 nights (-1.4 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Meri-Lappi out of total bed nights was 0.8 % (+0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.7 % and foreign bed nights 1.0 %.
10,100 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased five percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 61.2 percent were domestic, and 38.8 percent were from foreign countries.
During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Meri-Lappi on average 1.5 nights (+0.11) and foreigners 1.5 nights (+0.18).

Registered accommodation sales in March were 947,000 euro (-7,800).
Registered January-March sales were 2.5 million euro and they decreased 23,800 euro from the previous year.
