Meri-Lappi: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased five percent
In January 2019, 10,700 bed nights were recorded in Meri-Lappi (+5.0 %), of which 4,800 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 5,900 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased five percent and foreign bed nights increased five percent. In total, bed nights increased five percent from last year's January.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from China (1,900 nights).
5,400 nights (+5.7 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 5,300 nights (+4.4 %) by business visitors.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Market share 0.7 percent
Total of 1.5 million bed nights (+1.1 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 869,000 nights (+1.5 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 675,000 nights (+0.6 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Meri-Lappi out of total bed nights was 0.7 % (0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.6 % and foreign bed nights 0.9 %.
7,000 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased less than one percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 43.7 percent were domestic, and 56.3 percent were from foreign countries.
During January, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Meri-Lappi on average 1.6 nights (+0.08) and foreigners 1.5 nights (+0.06).
