Meri-Lappi: Tourism in a nutshell
10,200 registered bed nights
In January 2018, 10,200 bed nights were recorded in Meri-Lappi (-9.5 %), of which 4,600 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 5,600 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased 13 percent and foreign bed nights decreased 22 percent. In total, bed nights decreased nine percent from last year's January.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from China (1,500 nights).
5,100 nights (+2.8 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 5,100 nights (-19.2 %) by business visitors.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 15 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 44.1 percent were domestic, and 55.9 percent were from foreign countries.
During January, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Meri-Lappi on average 1.5 nights (+0.12) and foreigners 1.4 nights (+0.06).
