Mikkeli Region: Tourism in a nutshell
3,500 registered bed nights
In April 2020, 3,500 bed nights were recorded in Mikkeli Region (-78.1 %), of which 3,200 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 320 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased 77 percent and foreign bed nights decreased 86 percent. In total, bed nights decreased 78 percent from last year's April.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Estonia (250 nights).
1,400 nights (-85.6 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 2,200 nights (-67.3 %) by business visitors.
Between January and April, 32,100 bed nights (-34.5 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 8,200 (-35.7 %) for foreigners in Mikkeli Region, in total 40,300 (-34.8 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

1,300 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 85 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 98.4 percent were domestic, and 1.6 percent were from foreign countries.
During April, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Mikkeli Region on average 2.4 nights (+0.73) and foreigners 15 nights (+12).

20,100 Russian travelers via eastern border
A total of 20,100 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 63.1 percent.

There was a total of 8,600 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 92.3 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 181,000 euro
Registered accommodation sales in April were 181,000 euro (-627,000).
Registered January-April sales were 2.2 million euro and they decreased 958,000 euro from the previous year.
