Mikkeli Region: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased four percent
In November 2019, 14,400 bed nights were recorded in Mikkeli Region (+3.8 %), of which 11,900 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 2,500 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased seven percent and foreign bed nights decreased nine percent. In total, bed nights increased four percent from last year's November.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (1,000 nights).
6,700 nights (+19.5 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 7,700 nights (-6.8 %) by business visitors.
Between January and November, 202,000 bed nights (+1.3 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 54,300 (-4.8 %) for foreigners in Mikkeli Region, in total 257,000 (-0.0 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

9,000 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 14 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 90.9 percent were domestic, and 9.1 percent were from foreign countries.
During November, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Mikkeli Region on average 1.5 nights (-0.14) and foreigners 3.0 nights (-0.01).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 16 percent
A total of 289,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 91.3 percent.

There was a total of 55,000 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 76.9 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 850,000 euro
Registered accommodation sales in November were 850,000 euro (+133,000).
Registered January-November sales were 11.9 million euro and they increased 794,000 euro from the previous year.
