Mikkeli Region: Tourism in a nutshell
15,700 registered bed nights
In March 2019, 15,700 bed nights were recorded in Mikkeli Region (-4.6 %), of which 13,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 2,700 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased two percent and foreign bed nights decreased 17 percent. In total, bed nights decreased five percent from last year's March.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (680 nights).
7,300 nights (-23.8 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 8,400 nights (+22.1 %) by business visitors.
Between January and March, 35,300 bed nights (+3.0 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 10,500 (-2.9 %) for foreigners in Mikkeli Region, in total 45,700 (+1.6 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Total of 1.9 million bed nights (-2.3 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.3 million nights (-2.6 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 566,000 nights (-1.4 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Mikkeli Region out of total bed nights was 0.8 % (-0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 1.0 % and foreign bed nights 0.5 %.
9,000 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased six percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 89.5 percent were domestic, and 10.5 percent were from foreign countries.
During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Mikkeli Region on average 1.6 nights (+0.03) and foreigners 2.8 nights (+0.29).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased seven percent
A total of 292,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 81.9 percent.

Russian visa applications increased 32 percent
There was a total of 65,700 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 84.2 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 819,000 euro
Registered accommodation sales in March were 819,000 euro (+98,700).
Registered January-March sales were 2.4 million euro and they increased 254,000 euro from the previous year.
