Mikkeli Region: Tourism in a nutshell
31,900 registered bed nights
In June 2019, 31,900 bed nights were recorded in Mikkeli Region (-7.4 %), of which 26,100 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 5,900 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased seven percent and foreign bed nights decreased nine percent. In total, bed nights decreased seven percent from last year's June.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (2,200 nights).
25,000 nights (-6.1 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 6,900 nights (-11.9 %) by business visitors.
Between January and June, 88,600 bed nights (+2.5 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 22,000 (-8.3 %) for foreigners in Mikkeli Region, in total 111,000 (+0.1 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

16,700 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased five percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 86.2 percent were domestic, and 13.8 percent were from foreign countries.
During June, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Mikkeli Region on average 1.8 nights (-0.07) and foreigners 2.5 nights (+0.17).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased one percent
A total of 281,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 91.3 percent.

There was a total of 72,500 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 81.0 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 1.3 million euro
Registered accommodation sales in June were 1.3 million euro (+30,700).
Registered January-June sales were 5.4 million euro and they increased 518,000 euro from the previous year.
