35,700 bed nights in paid accommodation
Total of 35,700 bed nights (+33.7 %) were recorded in paid accommodation in Mikkeli Region in May 2021. This figure includes bed nights at registered establishments as well as at AirBnB and Vrbo. The share of registered bed nights was 39 % and non-registered 61 %.
Between January and May, the number of paid bed nights was 130,000 (+8.7 %). Share of registered was 37 % and non-registered 63 %.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded. Non-registered bed nights statistics include bed nights from AirBnB and Vrbo.
Registered bed nights increased 76 percent
In May 2021, 13,800 registered bed nights were recorded in Mikkeli Region (+76.3 %), of which 13,400 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 430 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 79 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 20 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 76 percent from last year's May.
8,200 nights (+91.7 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 5,600 nights (+57.5 %) by business visitors.
Between January and May, 46,100 registered bed nights (+16.5 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 1,300 (-84.4 %) for foreigners in Mikkeli Region, in total 47,400 (-1.5 %) registered nights.

7,300 tourists arrived to registered accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 144 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 99.1 percent were domestic, and 0.9 percent were from foreign countries.
During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Mikkeli Region on average 1.8 nights (-0.68) and foreigners 6.7 nights (-2.0).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 24 percent
A total of 24,100 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 73.4 percent.

Russian visa applications increased 114 percent
There was a total of 1,000 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 36.4 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 1.5 million euro
Total accommodation sales in May were 1.5 million euro (+234,000). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 53.9 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 704,000 euro (+328,000) and non-registered sales 822,000 euro (-94,000).
Total January-May sales were 5.3 million euro and they decreased 3,400 euro from the previous year.
