30,300 registered bed nights

In August 2021, 30,300 registered bed nights were recorded in Mikkeli Region (-8.2 %), of which 26,800 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 3,500 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased 12 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 41 percent. In total, registered bed nights decreased eight percent from last year's August.

23,700 nights (-8.9 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 6,600 nights (-5.6 %) by business visitors.

Between January and August, 165,000 registered bed nights (+7.6 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 11,500 (-18.1 %) for foreigners in Mikkeli Region, in total 176,000 (+5.4 %) registered nights.

Market share 1.5 percent

Total of 2.1 million registered bed nights (+22.9 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.8 million nights (+17.7 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 262,000 nights (+75.6 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Mikkeli Region out of total registered bed nights was 1.5 % (-0.5 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 1.5 % and foreign bed nights 1.4 %.

17,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased six percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 94.2 percent were domestic, and 5.8 percent were from foreign countries.

During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Mikkeli Region on average 1.7 nights (-0.09) and foreigners 3.6 nights (+0.32).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 51 percent

A total of 37,200 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

Russian visa applications increased 290 percent

There was a total of 2,500 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 56.8 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.

Accommodation sales 2.2 million euro

Total accommodation sales in August were 2.2 million euro (-33,800). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 36.9 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 1.4 million euro (+80,200) and non-registered sales 814,000 euro (-114,000).

Total January-August sales were 13.6 million euro and they increased 510,000 euro from the previous year.
