Mikkeli: Tourism in a nutshell
24,400 registered bed nights
In August 2019, 24,400 bed nights were recorded in Mikkeli (-2.9 %), of which 18,500 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 5,900 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased five percent and foreign bed nights decreased 21 percent. In total, bed nights decreased three percent from last year's August.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (2,400 nights).
16,600 nights (-3.7 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 7,800 nights (-1.0 %) by business visitors.
Between January and August, 122,000 bed nights (+3.2 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 32,400 (-6.1 %) for foreigners in Mikkeli, in total 155,000 (+1.1 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased four percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 83.6 percent were domestic, and 16.4 percent were from foreign countries.
During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Mikkeli on average 1.5 nights (-0.01) and foreigners 2.5 nights (-0.54).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 13 percent
A total of 348,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 92.3 percent.

There was a total of 90,700 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 84.3 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.

Registered accommodation sales in August were 1.1 million euro (+430).
Registered January-August sales were 7.3 million euro and they increased 478,000 euro from the previous year.
