Mikkeli: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased 11 percent
In October 2019, 14,500 bed nights were recorded in Mikkeli (+11.3 %), of which 12,600 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 1,900 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased 17 percent and foreign bed nights decreased 16 percent. In total, bed nights increased 11 percent from last year's October.
6,800 nights (+5.7 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 7,700 nights (+16.9 %) by business visitors.
Between January and October, 147,000 bed nights (+3.2 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 37,200 (-7.0 %) for foreigners in Mikkeli, in total 184,000 (+0.9 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 21 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 93.4 percent were domestic, and 6.6 percent were from foreign countries.
During October, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Mikkeli on average 1.5 nights (-0.13) and foreigners 3.3 nights (+0.32).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 14 percent
A total of 275,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

There was a total of 64,800 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 81.6 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.

Registered accommodation sales in October were 824,000 euro (+164,000).
Registered January-October sales were 9.0 million euro and they increased 674,000 euro from the previous year.
