Mikkeli: Tourism in a nutshell
14,000 registered bed nights
In March 2019, 14,000 bed nights were recorded in Mikkeli (-2.6 %), of which 11,800 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 2,200 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased two percent and foreign bed nights decreased 22 percent. In total, bed nights decreased three percent from last year's March.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Estonia (460 nights).
5,900 nights (-22.8 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 8,100 nights (+20.3 %) by business visitors.
Between January and March, 31,400 bed nights (+3.9 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 8,800 (+4.6 %) for foreigners in Mikkeli, in total 40,200 (+4.1 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Total of 1.9 million bed nights (-2.3 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.3 million nights (-2.6 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 566,000 nights (-1.4 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Mikkeli out of total bed nights was 0.8 % (-0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.9 % and foreign bed nights 0.4 %.
8,300 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased four percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 90.4 percent were domestic, and 9.6 percent were from foreign countries.
During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Mikkeli on average 1.6 nights (+0.04) and foreigners 2.8 nights (+0.29).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased seven percent
A total of 292,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

There was a total of 65,700 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 84.2 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 1.0 million euro
Total accommodation sales in March were 1.0 million euro (+168,000). The share of Airbnb and HomeAway was 33.6 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 753,000 euro (+118,000) and Airbnb and HomeAway sales 253,000 euro (+50,000).
Total January-March sales were 2.8 million euro and they increased 280,000 euro from the previous year.
