Mikkeli: Tourism in a nutshell
12,700 registered bed nights
In January 2019, 12,700 bed nights were recorded in Mikkeli (+0.3 %), of which 8,600 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 4,100 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased six percent and foreign bed nights increased 18 percent. In total, bed nights increased less than one percent from last year's January.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (2,400 nights).
5,400 nights (-12.1 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 7,300 nights (+12.0 %) by business visitors.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Total of 1.5 million bed nights (+1.1 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 869,000 nights (+1.5 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 675,000 nights (+0.6 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Mikkeli out of total bed nights was 0.8 % (-0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 1.0 % and foreign bed nights 0.6 %.
7,000 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased six percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 80.2 percent were domestic, and 19.8 percent were from foreign countries.
During January, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Mikkeli on average 1.5 nights (+0.07) and foreigners 2.9 nights (-0.04).

262,000 Russian travelers via eastern border
A total of 262,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 80.1 percent.

There was a total of 34,000 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 82.2 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 706,000 euro
Total accommodation sales in January were 706,000 euro (+9,300). The share of Airbnb was 6.5 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 663,000 euro (+50,100) and Airbnb sales 42,800 euro (-40,800).
