Mikkeli: Tourism in a nutshell
22,000 registered bed nights
In June 2019, 22,000 bed nights were recorded in Mikkeli (-8.0 %), of which 17,800 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 4,200 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased four percent and foreign bed nights decreased 21 percent. In total, bed nights decreased eight percent from last year's June.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (1,500 nights).
16,200 nights (-4.6 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 5,900 nights (-16.2 %) by business visitors.
Between January and June, 72,100 bed nights (+3.9 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 17,700 (-8.0 %) for foreigners in Mikkeli, in total 89,800 (+1.3 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased seven percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 87.4 percent were domestic, and 12.6 percent were from foreign countries.
During June, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Mikkeli on average 1.6 nights (-0.02) and foreigners 2.7 nights (+0.2).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased one percent
A total of 281,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 91.3 percent.

There was a total of 72,500 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 81.0 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.

Registered accommodation sales in June were 988,000 euro (+39,100).
Registered January-June sales were 4.6 million euro and they increased 527,000 euro from the previous year.
