Mikkeli: Tourism in a nutshell
12,200 registered bed nights
In February 2020, 12,200 bed nights were recorded in Mikkeli (-10.2 %), of which 10,500 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 1,700 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased five percent and foreign bed nights decreased 34 percent. In total, bed nights decreased 10 percent from last year's February.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (660 nights).
5,600 nights (-3.9 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 6,600 nights (-14.9 %) by business visitors.
Between January and February, 20,400 bed nights (+3.9 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 5,200 (-20.8 %) for foreigners in Mikkeli, in total 25,600 (-2.3 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased nine percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 92.1 percent were domestic, and 7.9 percent were from foreign countries.
During February, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Mikkeli on average 1.4 nights (-0.3) and foreigners 2.6 nights (+0.01).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 36 percent
A total of 255,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

There was a total of 51,600 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 83.4 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.

Registered accommodation sales in February were 727,000 euro (+12,700).
Registered January-February sales were 1.5 million euro and they increased 74,300 euro from the previous year.
