North Savonia: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased five percent
In September 2019, 68,200 bed nights were recorded in North Savonia (+4.8 %), of which 61,200 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 7,000 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased six percent and foreign bed nights decreased seven percent. In total, bed nights increased five percent from last year's September.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from China (1,200 nights).
38,000 nights (+4.1 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 30,200 nights (+5.8 %) by business visitors.
Between January and September, 600,000 bed nights (+2.8 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 91,500 (+5.1 %) for foreigners in North Savonia, in total 692,000 (+3.1 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

40,200 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased five percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 94.0 percent were domestic, and 6.0 percent were from foreign countries.
During September, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in North Savonia on average 1.6 nights (-0.02) and foreigners 2.9 nights (+0.54).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased six percent
A total of 251,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 91.4 percent.

There was a total of 69,800 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 87.9 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 3.8 million euro
Registered accommodation sales in September were 3.8 million euro (+256,000).
Registered January-September sales were 35.3 million euro and they increased 2.7 million euro from the previous year.
