North Savonia: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased four percent
In December 2019, 54,200 bed nights were recorded in North Savonia (+4.4 %), of which 48,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 6,200 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased three percent and foreign bed nights increased 16 percent. In total, bed nights increased four percent from last year's December.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (2,900 nights).
38,100 nights (+6.2 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 16,200 nights (+0.4 %) by business visitors.
Between January and December, 757,000 bed nights (+2.9 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 106,000 (+3.6 %) for foreigners in North Savonia, in total 863,000 (+3.0 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

29,700 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased three percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 91.5 percent were domestic, and 8.5 percent were from foreign countries.
During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in North Savonia on average 1.8 nights (+0.02) and foreigners 2.4 nights (-0.14).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased six percent
A total of 311,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 92.3 percent.

There was a total of 56,700 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 72.6 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 2.8 million euro
Registered accommodation sales in December were 2.8 million euro (+190,000).
Registered January-December sales were 45.2 million euro and they increased 3.3 million euro from the previous year.
