North Savonia: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered accommodation. All changes are relative to the same period a year ago.
Registered bed nights increased 48 percent
In December 2021, 48,500 registered bed nights were recorded in North Savonia (+47.6 %), of which 46,100 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 2,400 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 43 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 380 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 48 percent from last year's December.
Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Estonia (430 nights).
31,700 nights (+34.6 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 16,800 nights (+80.4 %) by business visitors.
Between January and December, 710,000 registered bed nights (+22.9 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 35,600 (-5.5 %) for foreigners in North Savonia, in total 746,000 (+21.1 %) registered nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

26,400 tourists arrived to registered accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 49 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 96.0 percent were domestic, and 4.0 percent were from foreign countries.
During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in North Savonia on average 1.8 nights (-0.03) and foreigners 2.2 nights (+0.01).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 52 percent
A total of 37,900 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 70.9 percent.

Registered accommodation sales in December were 2.7 million euro (+948,000).
Registered January-December sales were 39.1 million euro and they increased 8.5 million euro from the previous year.
