North Savonia: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased two percent
In August 2018, 87,600 bed nights were recorded in North Savonia (+2.1 %), of which 71,600 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 16,000 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased one percent and foreign bed nights increased 19 percent. In total, bed nights increased two percent from last year's August.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Germany (5,300 nights).
59,100 nights (+0.5 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 28,500 nights (+5.7 %) by business visitors.
Between January and August, 526,000 bed nights (-1.7 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 79,600 (+10.9 %) for foreigners in North Savonia, in total 606,000 (-0.2 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

49,700 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased one percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 83.0 percent were domestic, and 17.0 percent were from foreign countries.
During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in North Savonia on average 1.7 nights (+0.01) and foreigners 1.9 nights (0.0).

308,000 Russian travelers via eastern border
A total of 308,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 91.4 percent.

There was a total of 62,500 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 84.3 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 4.0 million euro
Registered accommodation sales in August were 4.0 million euro (+98,800).
Registered January-August sales were 29.1 million euro and they decreased 14,200 euro from the previous year.
