North Savonia: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased one percent
In September 2018, 65,100 bed nights were recorded in North Savonia (+1.2 %), of which 57,600 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 7,500 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased one percent and foreign bed nights increased 20 percent. In total, bed nights increased one percent from last year's September.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (1,100 nights).
36,500 nights (-0.9 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 28,600 nights (+4.0 %) by business visitors.
Between January and September, 584,000 bed nights (-1.6 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 87,100 (+11.6 %) for foreigners in North Savonia, in total 671,000 (-0.1 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

38,300 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased less than one percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 91.7 percent were domestic, and 8.3 percent were from foreign countries.
During September, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in North Savonia on average 1.6 nights (+0.01) and foreigners 2.3 nights (-0.02).

237,000 Russian travelers via eastern border
A total of 237,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 90.8 percent.

There was a total of 38,400 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 82.8 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 3.5 million euro
Registered accommodation sales in September were 3.5 million euro (+28,800).
Registered January-September sales were 32.6 million euro and they increased 14,600 euro from the previous year.
