North Savonia: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased seven percent
In July 2019, 128,000 bed nights were recorded in North Savonia (+6.9 %), of which 111,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 16,700 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased seven percent and foreign bed nights increased seven percent. In total, bed nights increased seven percent from last year's July.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (5,500 nights).
107,000 nights (+12.0 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 20,900 nights (-13.2 %) by business visitors.
Between January and July, 465,000 bed nights (+2.2 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 70,600 (+10.9 %) for foreigners in North Savonia, in total 535,000 (+3.3 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

70,200 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased six percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 90.4 percent were domestic, and 9.6 percent were from foreign countries.
During July, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in North Savonia on average 1.7 nights (-0.02) and foreigners 2.5 nights (+0.34).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 13 percent
A total of 325,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 91.5 percent.

Russian visa applications increased 26 percent
There was a total of 93,000 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 81.0 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 5.3 million euro
Registered accommodation sales in July were 5.3 million euro (+510,000).
Registered January-July sales were 27.5 million euro and they increased 2.4 million euro from the previous year.
