Oulu: Tourism in a nutshell
51,500 registered bed nights (February)
In February 2020, 51,500 bed nights were recorded in Oulu (+0.3 %), of which 44,300 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 7,200 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased one percent and foreign bed nights decreased five percent. In total, bed nights increased less than one percent from last year's February.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Germany (990 nights).
26,300 nights (-5.2 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 25,200 nights (+6.9 %) by business visitors.
Between January and February, 80,900 bed nights (+5.2 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 17,100 (-1.5 %) for foreigners in Oulu, in total 98,000 (+4.0 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Market share 2.8 percent (February)
Total of 1.8 million bed nights (+7.2 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.2 million nights (+10.1 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 613,000 nights (+1.9 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Oulu out of total bed nights was 2.8 % (-0.2 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 3.6 % and foreign bed nights 1.2 %.
32,200 tourists arrived to accommodation (February)
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased eight percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 87.6 percent were domestic, and 12.4 percent were from foreign countries.
During February, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Oulu on average 1.6 nights (+0.13) and foreigners 1.8 nights (+0.17).
2,800 international congress guests in 2019
The number of international congress quests decreased 35 percent from the previous year.
There was a total of 34 congresses organized (-9.0) in 2019.
20,500 air travelers
The airport received a total of 20,500 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased 56 percent.
Of local passengers, 12.3 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 87.7 %.
In addition, there were 17,200 passengers departing the airport (-63.1 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 37,700.

Accommodation sales 3.7 million euro (February)
Total accommodation sales in February were 3.7 million euro (+96,900). The share of Airbnb and HomeAway was 9.8 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 3.3 million euro (-15,300) and Airbnb and HomeAway sales 328,000 euro (+112,000).
Total January-February sales were 6.8 million euro and they increased 402,000 euro from the previous year.
