Registered bed nights increased eight percent (March)
In March 2022, 13,600 registered bed nights were recorded in Pielinen Karelia Region (+8.3 %), of which 13,400 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 240 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased seven percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 280 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased eight percent from last year's March.
Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Germany (58 nights).
11,900 nights (+1.9 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 1,700 nights (+91.0 %) by business visitors.
Between January and March, 30,600 registered bed nights (-4.9 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 820 (+80.0 %) for foreigners in Pielinen Karelia Region, in total 31,400 (-3.7 %) registered nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

7,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation (March)
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 18 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 98.4 percent were domestic, and 1.6 percent were from foreign countries.
During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Pielinen Karelia Region on average 1.9 nights (-0.16) and foreigners 2.1 nights (-3.6).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 19 percent
A total of 31,300 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 75.5 percent.

There was a total of 7,500 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 82.4 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
