Pielinen Karelia Region: Tourism in a nutshell
12,100 registered bed nights
In March 2019, 12,100 bed nights were recorded in Pielinen Karelia Region (-9.7 %), of which 10,200 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 1,900 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased 12 percent and foreign bed nights increased four percent. In total, bed nights decreased 10 percent from last year's March.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (1,100 nights).
10,600 nights (-10.3 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 1,500 nights (-5.1 %) by business visitors.
Between January and March, 25,000 bed nights (-6.6 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 5,600 (+33.4 %) for foreigners in Pielinen Karelia Region, in total 30,600 (-1.2 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Total of 1.9 million bed nights (-2.3 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.3 million nights (-2.6 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 566,000 nights (-1.4 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Pielinen Karelia Region out of total bed nights was 0.7 % (-0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.8 % and foreign bed nights 0.3 %.
6,900 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 26 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 89.4 percent were domestic, and 10.6 percent were from foreign countries.
During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Pielinen Karelia Region on average 1.7 nights (-0.69) and foreigners 2.6 nights (-0.72).
