Paid bed nights

Registered bed nights increased 10 percent

In May 2019, 4,500 registered bed nights were recorded in Pietarsaari Region (+10.1 %), of which 3,700 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 840 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 26 percent and registered foreign bed nights decreased 28 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 10 percent from last year's May.

3,200 nights (+26.0 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 1,300 nights (-15.3 %) by business visitors.

Between January and May, 12,100 registered bed nights (+5.7 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 2,800 (-19.8 %) for foreigners in Pietarsaari Region, in total 14,900 (-0.3 %) registered nights.

Market share 0.3 percent

Total of 1.6 million registered bed nights (+6.9 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.1 million nights (+4.3 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 465,000 nights (+13.6 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Pietarsaari Region out of total registered bed nights was 0.3 % (0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.3 % and foreign bed nights 0.2 %.

Length of stay increased three percent in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased three percent compared to earlier year. In Pietarsaari Region, length of stay in May was on average 2.2 nights and in Finland 1.8 nights (+2.1 %).

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Pietarsaari Region on average 2.1 nights (+3.6 %) and foreigners 3.0 nights (-1.0 %).

2,100 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased six percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 86.5 percent were domestic, and 13.5 percent were from foreign countries.

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Pietarsaari Region on average 2.1 nights (+0.19) and foreigners 3.0 nights (-0.16).

2,700 air travelers (Kokkola)

The airport received a total of 2,700 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased 15 percent.

Of local passengers, 8.0 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 92.0 %.

In addition, there were 2,600 passengers departing the airport (-18.2 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 5,300 (-16.6 %).
