Paid bed nights

17,100 registered bed nights (December 2023)

In December 2023, 17,100 registered bed nights were recorded in Gotland (-7.2 %), of which 15,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 2,100 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased nine percent and registered foreign bed nights increased seven percent. In total, registered bed nights decreased seven percent from last year's December.

5,900 rooms (-6.4 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 3,900 rooms (-4.3 %) by business visitors.

Between January and December, 857,000 registered bed nights (-7.3 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 114,000 (-6.9 %) for foreigners in Gotland, in total 971,000 (-7.3 %) registered nights.

Forecast of bed nights in paid accommodation

In February 2024, the number of bed nights in paid accommodation is expected to increase by 9.6 % compared to the previous year in Gotland.

The number of bed nights is expected to decrease by 2.1 % in the next six months compared to the previous year.

Market share 0.5 percent (December 2023)

Total of 3.2 million registered bed nights (+1.6 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 2.5 million nights (-1.5 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 764,000 nights (+13.4 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Gotland out of total registered bed nights was 0.5 % (-0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.6 % and foreign bed nights 0.3 %.

8,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation (December 2023)

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased three percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 87.6 percent were domestic, and 12.4 percent were from foreign countries.

During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Gotland on average 2.1 nights (-0.3) and foreigners 2.2 nights (+0.11).

The airport received a total of 8,100 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased six percent.

Of local passengers, 0.0 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 100.0 %.

In addition, there were 7,800 passengers departing the airport (-4.9 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 15,900 (-5.7 %).

Domestic visitors and their consumption (December 2023)

The number of domestic visitors in December was 33,200 (+3.8 %). Out of them 12,900 were on a daytrip and 20,300 stayed at least for one night.

The cumulative number of domestic visitors between January and December was 1.1 million (-12.3 %).

Total consumption of these visitors in Gotland in December was 55.6 million crowns (1,677 per visitor). Overnight visitors spent 44.4 million crowns and day visitors 11.2 million crowns. Between January and December the consumption was 2.1 billion crowns.
