Bed nights in paid accommodation

Bed nights in registered accommodation increased eight percent

In June 2023, 391,000 bed nights were registered in Helsinki (+7.5 %), of which 202,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 188,000 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased five percent and foreign bed nights increased 25 percent. In total, bed nights in registered accommodation increased eight percent from last year's June.

238,000 nights (+6.5 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 152,000 nights (+9.2 %) by business visitors.

Between January and June, 1.0 million registered bed nights (+16.4 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 799,000 (+40.0 %) for foreigners in Helsinki, in total 1.8 million (+25.7 %) registered nights.

Market share 17.4 percent

Total of 2.2 million bed nights in registered accommodation (+2.7 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.8 million nights (-0.4 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 455,000 nights (+16.6 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Helsinki out of total registered bed nights in Finland was 17.4 % (+0.8 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 11.3 % and foreign bed nights 41.4 %.

Comparison of registered bed nights between regions

Length of stay was 1.7 nights in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation decreased less than one percent compared to earlier year. In Helsinki, length of stay in June was on average 1.7 nights (-0.1 %) and in Finland 1.8 nights (-0.8 %).

During June, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Helsinki on average 1.6 nights (-2.2 %) and foreigners 2.0 nights (-1.0 %).

224,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased eight percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 58.2 percent were domestic, and 41.8 percent were from foreign countries.

880,000 air travelers

The airport received a total of 880,000 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 11 percent. 188,000 travelers were transferring planes (+13.4 %) and 692,000 were local passengers (+9.8 %).

Of local passengers, 92.1 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 7.9 %. For transferring passengers, the share of travelers arriving from abroad was 85.7 %.

In addition, there were 524,000 passengers departing the airport (+5.2 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 1.4 million (+8.5 %).

482,000 passengers by ferries

There were 482,000 arriving passengers by ferries. In total, the arrivals to port increased eight percent. The number of departing passengers was 498,000 (+8.1 %). Most arrivals were from Estonia (360,000 arrivals).

Accommodation sales 34.4 million euro

Total accommodation sales in June were 34.4 million euro (+985,000). The share of non-registered sales was 9.8 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 31.0 million euro (+738,000) and non-registered sales 3.4 million euro (+247,000).

Total January-June sales were 159.8 million euro and they increased 38.7 million euro from the previous year.
