Bed nights in paid accommodation

574,000 bed nights in registered accommodation

In August 2023, 574,000 bed nights were registered in Kalmar County (-8.1 %), of which 437,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 137,000 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased 13 percent and foreign bed nights increased 10 percent. In total, bed nights in registered accommodation decreased eight percent from last year's August.

61,300 rooms (-9.8 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 24,800 rooms (+9.5 %) by business visitors.

Between January and August, 2.2 million registered bed nights (-2.5 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 448,000 (+12.7 %) for foreigners in Kalmar County, in total 2.7 million (-0.3 %) registered nights.

Market share 6.9 percent

Total of 8.4 million bed nights in registered accommodation (-5.6 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 5.9 million nights (-9.9 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 2.5 million nights (+6.5 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Kalmar County out of total registered bed nights in Sweden was 6.9 % (-0.2 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 7.4 % and foreign bed nights 5.6 %.

Length of stay was 2.6 nights in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased less than one percent compared to earlier year. In Kalmar County, length of stay in August was on average 2.6 nights (+0.4 %) and in Sweden 2.1 nights (-0.3 %).

During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kalmar County on average 2.6 nights (+0.3 %) and foreigners 2.5 nights (+1.3 %).

222,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased eight percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 75.5 percent were domestic, and 24.5 percent were from foreign countries.
