Bed nights in paid accommodation

Bed nights in registered accommodation increased 14 percent

In June 2023, 42,700 bed nights were registered in Kiruna (+14.2 %), of which 32,200 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 10,500 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased 22 percent and foreign bed nights decreased five percent. In total, bed nights in registered accommodation increased 14 percent from last year's June.

11,800 rooms (+20.9 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 8,600 rooms (-9.3 %) by business visitors.

Between January and June, 195,000 registered bed nights (-2.0 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 106,000 (+17.0 %) for foreigners in Kiruna, in total 301,000 (+3.9 %) registered nights.

Market share 0.6 percent

Total of 6.9 million bed nights in registered accommodation (+0.5 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 5.1 million nights (-1.7 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 1.8 million nights (+7.7 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Kiruna out of total registered bed nights in Sweden was 0.6 % (+0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.6 % and foreign bed nights 0.6 %.

Length of stay increased six percent in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased six percent compared to earlier year. In Kiruna, length of stay in June was on average 2.1 nights (+5.8 %) and in Sweden 1.9 nights (-0.1 %).

During June, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kiruna on average 2.5 nights (+9.6 %) and foreigners 1.5 nights (-6.5 %).

19,900 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased eight percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 66.0 percent were domestic, and 34.0 percent were from foreign countries.

The airport received a total of 7,400 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased less than one percent.

Of local passengers, 0.0 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 100.0 %.

In addition, there were 6,900 passengers departing the airport (+2.9 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 14,300 (+1.5 %).

Registered January-June sales were 267.4 million crowns and they increased 79.3 million crowns from the previous year.
