Registered bed nights increased 280 percent

In January 2023, 6,300 registered bed nights were recorded in Maarianhamina (+277.3 %), of which 3,100 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 3,100 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 142 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 760 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 280 percent from last year's January.

5,200 nights (+448.7 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 1,100 nights (+52.0 %) by business visitors.

Total of 1.5 million registered bed nights (+48.1 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 994,000 nights (+43.8 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 536,000 nights (+56.6 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Maarianhamina out of total registered bed nights was 0.4 % (+0.2 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.3 % and foreign bed nights 0.6 %.

3,400 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 350 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 51.1 percent were domestic, and 48.9 percent were from foreign countries.

During January, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Maarianhamina on average 1.8 nights (-0.48) and foreigners 1.9 nights (-0.12).

1,300 air travelers

The airport received a total of 1,300 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 119 percent.

Of local passengers, 47.6 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 52.4 %.

In addition, there were 1,100 passengers departing the airport (+100.5 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 2,400 (+110.0 %).

There were 24,000 arriving passengers by ferries. In total, the arrivals to port increased 250 percent. The number of departing passengers was 25,100 (+211.4 %). Most arrivals were from Sweden (23,700 arrivals).
