Bed nights in paid accommodation

37,600 bed nights in registered accommodation

In June 2023, 37,600 bed nights were registered in Maarianhamina (-4.2 %), of which 26,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 11,600 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased 13 percent and foreign bed nights increased 23 percent. In total, bed nights in registered accommodation decreased four percent from last year's June.

31,100 nights (-3.9 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 6,500 nights (-5.8 %) by business visitors.

Between January and June, 55,900 registered bed nights (-6.8 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 33,300 (+36.9 %) for foreigners in Maarianhamina, in total 89,300 (+5.8 %) registered nights.

Market share 1.7 percent

Total of 2.2 million bed nights in registered accommodation (+2.7 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.8 million nights (-0.4 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 455,000 nights (+16.6 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Maarianhamina out of total registered bed nights in Finland was 1.7 % (-0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 1.5 % and foreign bed nights 2.5 %.

Length of stay was 2.0 nights in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation decreased three percent compared to earlier year. In Maarianhamina, length of stay in June was on average 2.0 nights (-3.3 %) and in Finland 1.8 nights (-0.8 %).

During June, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Maarianhamina on average 2.0 nights (-6.3 %) and foreigners 1.9 nights (+7.0 %).

18,800 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased one percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 68.1 percent were domestic, and 31.9 percent were from foreign countries.

The airport received a total of 1,700 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 31 percent.

Of local passengers, 41.4 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 58.6 %.

In addition, there were 1,900 passengers departing the airport (+51.5 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 3,600 (+41.1 %).
