Bed nights in paid accommodation

34,500 bed nights in registered accommodation

In August 2023, 34,500 bed nights were registered in Savonlinna (-5.8 %), of which 25,500 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 9,000 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased six percent and foreign bed nights decreased five percent. In total, bed nights in registered accommodation decreased six percent from last year's August.

Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Germany (4,000 nights).

27,300 nights (-6.2 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 7,300 nights (-4.4 %) by business visitors.

Between January and August, 164,000 registered bed nights (-4.5 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 27,300 (+3.8 %) for foreigners in Savonlinna, in total 192,000 (-3.4 %) registered nights.

Market share 1.5 percent

Total of 2.3 million bed nights in registered accommodation (-0.6 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.7 million nights (-3.2 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 606,000 nights (+7.9 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Savonlinna out of total registered bed nights in Finland was 1.5 % (-0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 1.5 % and foreign bed nights 1.5 %.

Length of stay increased one percent in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased one percent compared to earlier year. In Savonlinna, length of stay in August was on average 1.9 nights (+0.9 %) and in Finland 1.8 nights (+0.0 %).

During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Savonlinna on average 1.6 nights (+2.2 %) and foreigners 3.5 nights (-8.1 %).

18,100 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased seven percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 85.8 percent were domestic, and 14.2 percent were from foreign countries.

The airport received a total of 149 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 82 percent.

A total of 44,800 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

The share of southeastern border stations was 85.4 percent.

Total accommodation sales in August were 2.2 million euro (-119,000). The share of non-registered sales was 18.8 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 1.8 million euro (-165,000) and non-registered sales 415,000 euro (+45,500).

Total January-August sales were 14.1 million euro and they decreased 113,000 euro from the previous year.
