Bed nights in paid accommodation
Bed nights in registered accommodation increased six percent
In August 2023, 13,800 bed nights were registered in Sodankylä (+5.7 %), of which 10,500 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 3,400 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased two percent and foreign bed nights increased 39 percent. In total, bed nights in registered accommodation increased six percent from last year's August.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Germany (1,200 nights).
11,400 nights (+8.5 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 2,400 nights (-5.7 %) by business visitors.
Between January and August, 69,000 registered bed nights (-8.3 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 65,300 (+14.7 %) for foreigners in Sodankylä, in total 134,000 (+1.6 %) registered nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Length of stay was 1.8 nights in registered accommodation
Length of stay in registered accommodation decreased five percent compared to earlier year. In Sodankylä, length of stay in August was on average 1.8 nights (-5.2 %) and in Finland 1.8 nights (+0.0 %).
During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Sodankylä on average 1.9 nights (-4.2 %) and foreigners 1.5 nights (-1.8 %).
7,800 tourists arrived to registered accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 11 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 70.8 percent were domestic, and 29.2 percent were from foreign countries.
