Bed nights in paid accommodation

Bed nights in registered accommodation increased seven percent

In August 2023, 179,000 bed nights were registered in Sognefjord (+6.8 %), of which 43,400 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 136,000 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased 11 percent and foreign bed nights increased 14 percent. In total, bed nights in registered accommodation increased seven percent from last year's August.

67,000 nights (+13.4 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 4,300 nights (-19.3 %) by business visitors.

Between January and August, 228,000 registered bed nights (-8.9 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 447,000 (+23.8 %) for foreigners in Sognefjord, in total 675,000 (+10.4 %) registered nights.

Market share 3.5 percent

Total of 5.1 million bed nights in registered accommodation (-1.5 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 3.0 million nights (-7.7 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 2.1 million nights (+8.9 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Sognefjord out of total registered bed nights in Norway was 3.5 % (+0.3 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 1.5 % and foreign bed nights 6.5 %.

Length of stay was 1.7 nights in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation decreased five percent compared to earlier year. In Sognefjord, length of stay in August was on average 1.7 nights (-5.4 %) and in Norway 1.9 nights (-4.4 %).

During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Sognefjord on average 1.7 nights (-1.0 %) and foreigners 1.7 nights (-7.3 %).

106,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 13 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 24.6 percent were domestic, and 75.4 percent were from foreign countries.
