Bed nights in paid accommodation

Bed nights in registered accommodation increased three percent

In August 2023, 1.7 million bed nights were registered in Stockholm County (+3.0 %), of which 947,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 713,000 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased six percent and foreign bed nights increased 19 percent. In total, bed nights in registered accommodation increased three percent from last year's August.

555,000 rooms (+11.0 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 355,000 rooms (-6.0 %) by business visitors.

Between January and August, 6.7 million registered bed nights (+1.9 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 3.6 million (+23.1 %) for foreigners in Stockholm County, in total 10.3 million (+8.5 %) registered nights.

Market share 19.9 percent

Total of 8.4 million bed nights in registered accommodation (-5.6 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 5.9 million nights (-9.9 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 2.5 million nights (+6.5 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Stockholm County out of total registered bed nights in Sweden was 19.9 % (+1.7 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 16.1 % and foreign bed nights 29.0 %.

Length of stay increased three percent in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased three percent compared to earlier year. In Stockholm County, length of stay in August was on average 2.1 nights (+2.8 %) and in Sweden 2.1 nights (-0.3 %).

During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Stockholm County on average 1.9 nights (+0.3 %) and foreigners 2.4 nights (+4.0 %).

802,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased less than one percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 62.6 percent were domestic, and 37.4 percent were from foreign countries.

Registered accommodation sales in August were 1.4 billion crowns (+143.4 million).

Registered January-August sales were 8.7 billion crowns and they increased 1.6 billion crowns from the previous year.
