Bed nights in paid accommodation

137,000 bed nights in registered accommodation

In August 2023, 137,000 bed nights were registered in Varberg (-13.6 %), of which 123,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 13,800 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased 16 percent and foreign bed nights increased 19 percent. In total, bed nights in registered accommodation decreased 14 percent from last year's August.

12,700 rooms (+9.5 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 9,700 rooms (+0.2 %) by business visitors.

Between January and August, 601,000 registered bed nights (-12.1 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 65,200 (+12.5 %) for foreigners in Varberg, in total 666,000 (-10.2 %) registered nights.

Market share 1.6 percent

Total of 8.4 million bed nights in registered accommodation (-5.6 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 5.9 million nights (-9.9 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 2.5 million nights (+6.5 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Varberg out of total registered bed nights in Sweden was 1.6 % (-0.2 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 2.1 % and foreign bed nights 0.6 %.

Length of stay was 2.1 nights in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation decreased eight percent compared to earlier year. In Varberg, length of stay in August was on average 2.1 nights (-8.3 %) and in Sweden 2.1 nights (-0.3 %).

During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Varberg on average 2.2 nights (-9.4 %) and foreigners 2.0 nights (+7.4 %).

63,800 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased six percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 89.0 percent were domestic, and 11.0 percent were from foreign countries.
