Rovaniemi: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased 11 percent
In February 2019, 84,900 bed nights were recorded in Rovaniemi (+11.4 %), of which 14,500 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 70,400 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased 21 percent and foreign bed nights increased 10 percent. In total, bed nights increased 11 percent from last year's February.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from China (13,300 nights).
71,400 nights (+28.3 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 13,500 nights (-34.4 %) by business visitors.
Between January and February, 28,000 bed nights (+15.4 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 142,000 (+10.7 %) for foreigners in Rovaniemi, in total 170,000 (+11.5 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Total of 1.7 million bed nights (+2.0 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.1 million nights (+2.8 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 601,000 nights (+0.4 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Rovaniemi out of total bed nights was 4.9 % (+0.4 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 1.3 % and foreign bed nights 11.7 %.
41,300 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 16 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 20.1 percent were domestic, and 79.9 percent were from foreign countries.
During February, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Rovaniemi on average 1.7 nights (+0.07) and foreigners 2.1 nights (-0.12).
2,400 international congress guests in 2019
The number of international congress quests increased 160 percent from the previous year.
There was a total of 12 congresses organized (+5.0) in 2019.
36,700 air travelers
The airport received a total of 36,700 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased five percent.
Of local passengers, 22.4 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 77.6 %.
In addition, there were 38,100 passengers departing the airport (+11.5 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 74,800.

Accommodation sales 8.9 million euro
Total accommodation sales in February were 8.9 million euro (+958,000). The share of Airbnb and HomeAway was 16.6 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 7.7 million euro (+935,000) and Airbnb and HomeAway sales 1.3 million euro (+23,200).
Total January-February sales were 18.5 million euro and they increased 1.6 million euro from the previous year.
