156,000 registered bed nights (August)

In August 2022, 156,000 registered bed nights were recorded in Saimaa Region (-2.4 %), of which 126,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 30,600 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased 13 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 99 percent. In total, registered bed nights decreased two percent from last year's August.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (9,400 nights).

114,000 nights (-6.3 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 42,200 nights (+10.1 %) by business visitors.

Between January and August, 855,000 registered bed nights (+1.0 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 87,600 (+126.4 %) for foreigners in Saimaa Region, in total 943,000 (+6.5 %) registered nights.

Market share 6.8 percent (August)

Total of 2.3 million registered bed nights (+12.6 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.8 million nights (-2.2 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 560,000 nights (+114.2 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Saimaa Region out of total registered bed nights was 6.8 % (-1.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 7.2 % and foreign bed nights 5.5 %.

81,400 tourists arrived to registered accommodation (August)

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased four percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 86.3 percent were domestic, and 13.7 percent were from foreign countries.

During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Saimaa Region on average 1.8 nights (-0.02) and foreigners 2.7 nights (-0.32).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 250 percent (August)

A total of 129,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

Russian visa applications increased 330 percent (June)

There was a total of 12,000 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 81.5 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.

Accommodation sales 9.9 million euro (August)

Total accommodation sales in August were 9.9 million euro (+256,000). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 20.3 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 7.9 million euro (+234,000) and non-registered sales 2.0 million euro (+22,900).

Total January-August sales were 58.8 million euro and they increased 4.6 million euro from the previous year.
