Saimaa Region: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased seven percent
In June 2019, 166,000 bed nights were recorded in Saimaa Region (+6.9 %), of which 130,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 36,400 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased 12 percent and foreign bed nights decreased eight percent. In total, bed nights increased seven percent from last year's June.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (19,800 nights).
134,000 nights (+1.6 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 32,900 nights (+35.7 %) by business visitors.
Between January and June, 436,000 bed nights (+6.9 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 157,000 (-4.9 %) for foreigners in Saimaa Region, in total 593,000 (+3.5 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

82,500 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased five percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 80.5 percent were domestic, and 19.5 percent were from foreign countries.
During June, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Saimaa Region on average 2.0 nights (-0.01) and foreigners 2.3 nights (+0.23).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased one percent
A total of 281,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 91.3 percent.

Russian visa applications increased 10 percent
There was a total of 72,500 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 81.0 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 7.0 million euro
Registered accommodation sales in June were 7.0 million euro (+1.2 million).
Registered January-June sales were 27.7 million euro and they increased 3.0 million euro from the previous year.
