Paid bed nights

Registered bed nights increased two percent

In January 2020, 91,500 registered bed nights were recorded in Saimaa Region (+2.3 %), of which 50,400 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 41,100 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased four percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 11 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased two percent from last year's January.

59,300 nights (-0.5 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 32,200 nights (+8.0 %) by business visitors.

Market share 5.5 percent

Total of 1.7 million registered bed nights (+8.0 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 957,000 nights (+10.1 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 714,000 nights (+5.3 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Saimaa Region out of total registered bed nights was 5.5 % (-0.3 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 5.3 % and foreign bed nights 5.8 %.

Length of stay was 1.9 nights in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation decreased seven percent compared to earlier year. In Saimaa Region, length of stay in January was on average 1.9 nights and in Finland 2.0 nights (-1.9 %).

During January, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Saimaa Region on average 1.6 nights and foreigners 2.4 nights .

48,200 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 10 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 64.2 percent were domestic, and 35.8 percent were from foreign countries.

During January, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Saimaa Region on average 1.6 nights (-0.15) and foreigners 2.4 nights (-0.18).

Ferry arrivals from different harbors

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 25 percent

A total of 291,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

The share of southeastern border stations was 91.8 percent.
