Paid bed nights

47,300 registered bed nights

In March 2020, 47,300 registered bed nights were recorded in Saimaa Region (-50.4 %), of which 37,500 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 9,800 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased 46 percent and registered foreign bed nights decreased 62 percent. In total, registered bed nights decreased 50 percent from last year's March.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (7,400 nights).

29,400 nights (-55.0 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 17,900 nights (-40.2 %) by business visitors.

Between January and March, 162,000 registered bed nights (-17.1 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 72,700 (-10.1 %) for foreigners in Saimaa Region, in total 235,000 (-15.1 %) registered nights.

Market share 4.8 percent

Total of 996,000 registered bed nights (-46.6 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 730,000 nights (-43.7 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 265,000 nights (-53.2 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Saimaa Region out of total registered bed nights was 4.8 % (-0.4 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 5.1 % and foreign bed nights 3.7 %.

Length of stay was 1.9 nights in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation decreased less than one percent compared to earlier year. In Saimaa Region, length of stay in March was on average 1.9 nights and in Finland 2.3 nights (+14.6 %).

During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Saimaa Region on average 1.8 nights (-6.6 %) and foreigners 2.0 nights (-3.2 %).

25,200 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 50 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 80.7 percent were domestic, and 19.3 percent were from foreign countries.

During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Saimaa Region on average 1.8 nights (+0.0) and foreigners 2.0 nights (+0.03).

Ferry arrivals from different harbors

145,000 Russian travelers via eastern border

A total of 145,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

The share of southeastern border stations was 88.7 percent.

Registered accommodation sales in March were 2.5 million euro (-2.1 million).

Registered January-March sales were 11.9 million euro and they decreased 1.7 million euro from the previous year.
